Clendenin Brass Scholarship

A scholarship fund has been endowed in memory of June Clendenin by her son, Dr. W. Ritchie Clendenin, former professor of Trumpet at California State University, Fresno. For 27 years, from 1991 to 2018, June Clendenin provided funding at California State University, Fresno for five brass scholarships, thus making possible high-level brass chamber music in the Clendenin Brass Quintet. She received her early training in piano from Catherine Saurer who was a graduate of the American Conservatory in Chicago. She was awarded a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Illinois where she was a student of renowned pianist Stanley Fletcher. June was an elementary school teacher for many years in the Boulder Valley School district in Colorado. As a pianist, she taught and performed extensively in Colorado, especially with her son Dr. W. Ritchie Clendenin who was for many years a professor of Trumpet at California State University, Fresno.

Applicants for this scholarship must be majoring in Music, be in good academic standing, and a member of the Clendenin Brass Quintet.
