CSU Trustee Emerita Claudia Hampton California Academy of Math and Science (CAMS) Scholarship

The Hampton Scholars Scholarship was funded in honor of Dr. Claudia H. Hampton, the first Black woman to serve as a trustee of the California State University and recognizes students who excel academically and exemplify Dr. Hampton’s dedication. Dr. Claudia H. Hampton served on the California State University Board of Trustees for 20 years from 1974 to 1994; serving as chair for three of those years: from 1979 to 1981. She was a teacher and administrator in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 25 years, retiring in 1981 as director of the district’s Human and School-Community Relations Resource Office.

Four (4) $5,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2026/2027 academic year.

APPLICANTS MUST

  • Applicants must be graduates of the California Academy of Mathematics and Science (CAMS).
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year.
  • Applicants must be in good academic standing.
  • Be currently enrolled at Fresno State and remain a full-time Fresno State student during the 2026/2027 academic year.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to completing the general scholarship application on this site, applicants must provide a brief personal statement answering the following questions:

  1. What experience has impacted your personal growth?
  2. Tell us about a time you failed. What did you learn from that experience?
  3. Why are you pursuing your major? How does it relate to your career aspirations?
  4. Provide an example of service beyond the classroom (i.e., have you taken on significant family obligations, helped others in a specific way, been involved in political action, worked/volunteered/interned at a particular organization, etc.). Why is this example significant to you?

This scholarship opportunity has a financial need requirement. To qualify for this scholarship applicants must also submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the California Dream Application, for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year. When the Office Financial Aid Office & Scholarships receives and processes the FAFSA information, a financial need calculation will automatically be uploaded to your scholarship application.
